SYNOPSIS:
35mm/100min
A bittersweet coming-of-age comic drama set in the 1980's. Allison, an introverted teenager, goes to the Jersey shore determined to break out of her shell after a lonely high school experience overshadowed by her mother's death.
But reality isn't as romantic as Allison's vivid daydreams, and her clumsy attempts at sexual intimacy, humiliating diner job, and tensions with her best friend, Becky, aren't adding up to a good time. Matters are further complicated when Becky's mother, an ex-Hooters waitress, decides to crash on their couch and pulls Allison into a triangle of mother-daughter conflict and competition.
But the summer finally turns around when Allison meets Wayne, a sexy, rebellious Harvard student who shares her love of dark poetry and sense of alienation. As tensions erupt at home with Becky and her mother, Allison turns to Wayne for comfort and is lured into an unsteady experience of first love that ultimately forces her to come to terms with her mother’s death and start taking responsibility for her happiness.
Featuring an incredible 80's soundtrack. |
